Storming to Calm | A Storytelling Event | Saturday Oct 11 | 7:30pm

  • Story Parlor 227 Haywood Road Asheville, NC, 28806 United States (map)

Join this gathering of stories describing personal journeys from Stormy to Calm featuring four local storytelling favorites: Nancy Reeder, Jo Mangum, Chuck Fink, and David Sharpe. Sit back to enjoy stories of humor, pathos, and joy, taking you from New England to The Appalachian Mountains, and places in between.  It'll be an evening you'll long remember.

  • Chuck began telling stories as soon as he could talk, although he learned the true craft for performance by taking a class on Personal Storytelling at OLLI in 2012.

Chuck tells personal stories filled with comedy, drama, and most of all hope.

He teaches classes on personal storytelling for performance at OLLI and The Weaverville Community Center.

Chuck is past president of The Asheville Storytelling Circle, and a member of The North Carolina Storytelling Guild, The National Storytelling Network and other regional storytelling groups.

  • As an educator she had always relied on stories to help students learn BUT knew that she could be better at it.

When this opportunity showed up she thought, “This is my chance to make an impact through stories!”

  • David Sharpe is an accomplished storyteller, stiltdancer, and mime.

He has been performing for 40 years with stories deeply influenced by living in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and New England. David loves stories of adventure and stories of the heart.

  • In 1998 Nancy left the classroom after 23 years teaching elementary grades—to be a storyteller with no idea where that would take her.

Teaching ESL in South Korea, exploring the vastness of Australia, Thailand, and even driving a U.S. rental car through Mexico, and all along the way, stories found her.

Then she discovered long-distance hiking: completing the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail, and with those hikes, many more stories and even writing a book.

And still loves sharing fairy tales, tall tales, myths and historical stories.
